The Mahindra Scorpio Getaway is slotted in the pick-up truck segment. The Getaway is a new category creating offering from the Scorpio stable. The Scorpio Getaway is available in 2WD and 4WD options and comes in 4 colours. It pumps its power from its 2600cc common-rail diesel engine (CRDe).

The globally certified safety features of this vehicle include crash protecting crumple zones, child lock, collapsible steering and side intrusion beams. Also, the tubeless tires, voice assist system, touchscreen infotainment centre with Bluetooth and navigation, and remote locking / unlocking of the vehicle are the additional safety features.

The car has an approach angle of 34 degrees, a departure angle of 15 degrees and a breakover angle of 18 degrees. The car has a mechanical locking differential, manufactured by the world renowned Eaton Corporation, which provides ‘shift-on-the-fly’ on the rear axle to help with off-roading.

The Mahindra Scorpio Getaway is essentially the second vehicle launched by Mahindra on the Mahindra Scorpio platform. Available in a 4-door trim and both 4X4 and 4X2 wheel drive configurations, it falls in the life-style pick up truck class, a class that has not seen good response in markets like India. This vehicle with similar features is also available in markets like South Africa and Australia (as Mahindra Pik-Up) where it is also available in a 2-door version. Prices range upward of 6,99,000 Indian Rupees.

This vehicle faces competition in the form of Mahindra’s own comparatively lower model “Mahindra Bolero Camper” and the Tata TL in India. The vehicle’s global competitors are the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu KB, Mitsubishi Triton, Ford Ranger, Fiat Fullback and the Foton Tunland.

In the Australian and New Zealand markets, the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway has been launched as the Mahindra Pik-Up in 2014. The oceanic version uses a 2.2L mHawk Diesel engine, with a compression ration of 18.5:1, delivering 88 kW (118.0 hp) @4000rpm and 280 N⋅m (206.5 lb⋅ft) @1800rpm. In the South African market, the car uses the same 2.2L engine but has a compression ratio of 16.5:1 and delivers 103 kW (138.1 hp) @3750rpm and 320 N⋅m (236.0 lb⋅ft) @1500-2800rpm.
